Sermon from cong readings in 1 Chron
16-20, Aug 19, 2007 – bk@kluth.org
Our ministry theme this year is Reaching beyond generations & walls
1 - God is all inspiring
1 Chron 29:10-11a
David praised the LORD in the presence of the whole assembly, saying,
"Praise be to you, O LORD, God of our father
2 - God is over all
1 Chron 29:11b Yours, O LORD, is the kingdom; you are exalted as head over all..you are the ruler of all things.
1 Tim 6:15 God, the blessed and only Ruler, the King of kings and Lord of lords. Ps 24:1 The earth is the LORD's, and everything in it, the world, and all who live in it;
3 - God owns it all
1 Chron 29:13 Everything in heaven and earth is yours.
1 Chron 29:16 O LORD our God, as for all this abundance that we have provided for building you a temple for your Holy Name, it comes from your hand, and all of it belongs to you. Dt 8:17-18 You may say to yourself, "My power and the strength of my hands have produced this wealth for me." But remember the LORD your God, for it is he who gives you the ability to produce wealth.
4 - God loans it all
1 Chron 29:11b Wealth and honor come from you; you are the ruler of all things. In your hands are strength and power to exalt and give strength to all.
1 Cor 4:7
What do you have that God hasn't given you? And if all you have is from God,
why act as though you are so great, and as though you have accomplished
something on your own?TLB
1 Chron 29:14-15 "But who am I, and who are my people, that we should be able to give as generously as this? Everything comes from you, and we have given you only what comes from your hand.”
We are aliens and strangers in your sight, as were all our forefathers.
1 Chron 29:17b All these things have I given willingly and with honest intent. And now I have seen with joy how willingly your people who are here have given to you.
5 - God inspects all
1 Chron 29:17 I know, my God, that you test the heart and are pleased with integrity.
1 Cor 4:5 Be careful not to jump to conclusions before the Lord returns as to whether or not someone is faithful. When the Lord comes, he will bring our deepest secrets to light and will reveal our private motives. And then God will give to everyone whatever praise is due.
6 - God is worthy of all
1 Chron 29:20-22 Then David said to the whole assembly, "Praise the LORD your God." So they all praised the LORD, the God of their fathers; they bowed low and fell prostrate before the LORD…
Phil 2:9-11 God exalted [Christ] to the highest place and gave him the name that is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord.
