What To Do In Your Lifetime

From congregational readings in Psalm 90, Oct 4, 08 -   bk@kluth.org

1 - Delight yourself in God

Ps 90:1-2 Lord, you have been our dwelling place throughout all generations.  Before the mountains were born or you brought forth the earth and the world, from everlasting to everlasting you are God.

Ps 37:4 Delight yourself in the LORD and he will give you the desires of your heart.

2 - Determine how to use your dash

Ps 90:3-4,10,12 You turn men back to dust, saying, "Return to dust, O sons of men."  For a thousand years in your sight are like a day that has just gone by...The length of our days is seventy years--or eighty, if we have the strength; yet their span is but trouble and sorrow, for they quickly pass, and we fly away...Teach us to number our days aright, that we may gain a heart of wisdom.

3 - Deal with your sin problem with God's solution

Ps 90:7-8 We are consumed by your anger and terrified by your indignation.  You have set our iniquities before you, our secret sins in the light of your presence.

Rom 8:1-3 So now there is no condemnation for those who belong to Christ Jesus. For the power of the life-giving Spirit has freed you through Christ Jesus from the power of sin that leads to death. The law of Moses could not save us, because of our sinful nature. But God put into effect a different plan to save us. He sent his own Son in a human body like ours, except that ours are sinful. God

destroyed sin's control over us by giving his Son as a sacrifice for our sins.NLT

4 - Discover God's love daily

Ps 90:14-17 Satisfy us in the morning with your unfailing love, that we may sing for joy and be glad all our days.    Make us glad for as many days as you have afflicted us, for as many years as we have seen trouble.  May your deeds be shown to your servants, your splendor to their children.

Rom 8:38-39 I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

5 - Do what God wants you to do

Ps 90:17 May the favor of the Lord our God rest upon us; establish the work of our hands for us--yes, establish the work of our hands.

Ps 92:12-15  The righteous will flourish like a palm tree, they will grow like a cedar of Lebanon; planted in the house of the LORD, they will flourish in the courts of our God.  They will still bear fruit in old age, they will stay fresh and green, proclaiming, "The LORD is upright".

John 15:5,8 (Jesus said) "I am the vine; you are the branches. If a man remains in me and I in him, he will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing...This is to my Father's glory, that you bear much fruit, showing yourselves to be my disciples.
